If you want to read a different kind of poetry that doesn’t include heavy themes and situations, you should go for Andrew Shaffer’s upcoming poetry book- Not Today Satan (Maybe Tomorrow).
The author is an experienced humorist with dozens of books published in various genres like essays, fiction, and poetry. If you like satire and humor, you are in for a treat with this collection! The cover for Not Today Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) is as bright and fun as the material. The book is set to be published on 5 September 2023.

Why You Should Read
The humor style
Right from the dedication, I had a smile on my face:
“For everyone who told me there was no money in poetry . . . you were right.”
I liked this particular book of ‘poetry’ because the writing style and observations are similar to mine. So, I got and understood a lot of them.
Material
The observations are to the point. It’s funny and relatable at the same time. Even the acknowledgment is funny. I definitely am going to check out the previously written material/ books by the author.
Con:
As much as I like the cover, the blurb should include that it is an adult collection and set an age limit. A disclaimer would be nice to mention.
Some of My Favorite Pieces from the Book
The Only Thing
The only thing that could make her happy was the one thing she could never have (a pet dinosaur)
Fashion Advice
Sure, laugh at my cargo shorts. The more pockets you have, the more airplane bottles of Fireball Whisky you can carry to your son’s morning soccer practice.
Under The Covers
I will never forget those long, enchanted nights we laid together naked in bed, my ravenous lover and I watching cat videos on her iPhone.
#Sponsoredpoem
So many poems about whiskey, so few about cheap vodka. And look—I get it. Cheap vodka isn’t aged in oak barrels; it doesn’t have notes of vanilla and citrus. That thirteen-dollar bottle of Smirnoff doesn’t “taste of her amber lips” or “reveal unspoken truths.” It will never “burn like candlelight in your heart” or “warm your weathered soul” (although it is flammable).
Some Great Laughs
Some other materials I really laughed at include:
‘response to response to ‘rejection letter for ‘dear penthouse review…’, ‘How to be the best “you” you can be (in 13 easy steps), dear penthouse review, and more.
And so:
Check out this small poetry or essay piece collection for a chuckle on a tiring day. This a recommendation for entertainment and humor lovers indeed! There are a lot of other works by Andrew Shaffer that have found their way into my library now.
