Mindy Kaling inspires many women worldwide, especially those who want to go into comedy. The writer, actor, and producer has been very open about her life and showcased it to readers through various books and essays.
As an author, she is a bestseller for her memoirs ‘Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And other concerns)’ and ‘Why Not Me?’. Fans appreciate these books as they get to know the person behind their favorite shows and movies.
Here are the six essay books Mindy has released until now that are available on Amazon:
#1 Kind of Hindu
The first in the series, Kind Of Hindu, is about Mindy and her religion. I am talking about how she navigated being an Indian in the USA. Though, the funniest part is her daughter’s ‘Mundan’ ceremony!
#2 Please Like Me (But Keep Away)
It shows Mindy’s lifestyle as an introvert. This is my favorite of the shorts released by the author. This essay is filled with happy, embarrassing, and funny situations- exactly what you want from a comedy essay!
#3 Help Is on the Way
The story is about Kit’s (the author’s daughter’s) baby nurse. In this, Mindy talks about her child and baby nurse (mostly baby nurse). And it’s a very personal journey for any mother. It was the most emotional and the least humorous of the lot.
#4 Searching for Coach Taylor
This 16-page essay is one of the shorter ones. It explains the author’s husband pros and cons. Though it’s very true to life, it just felt like it ended when it started to hold the reader’s attention.
#5 Once Upon a Time in Silver Lake
This is the shortest essay at 11 pages. The author recalls an incident involving Mindy and her dear friend, costar, and writer B. J. Novak. They got involved in a quirky theft.
#6 Big Shot
This is one of the best ones from her essays!
Reading about her progress from The Office to being a producer is pretty inspiring. Ultimately, we even got some extras in this little essay book that tied everything perfectly.
Pros
Idea
The books contain small, light journal entries. Other celebrities should also be forthcoming about their misadventures and life experiences. It will help them connect more with their fans!
Illustrations alongside chapter headers
This doesn’t concern the writing and is not a big deal for many people, but as a reader, I love it when a book has proper formatting!
Cons
- The essays are short, so if you’ve read the author’s other memoirs, you may find this way faster than they could’ve been.
