Murder in Bermuda: A Perfect Beach Read from Audible

Audible has been producing audiobooks of different genres for a long time now. Whether fiction, YA, dramatized plays, or nonfiction, Audible has a lot of room for all types of audiobooks. The latest entry in their mystery thriller audiobooks is the addition of James Patterson’s Murder in Bermuda!

Newly released in June, Murder in Bermuda is your read if you want a one-time murder mystery. It is not filled with much drama but is a light, easy breezy read that intrigues you.

The Plot: About the story

Just at the novel’s start, James Patterson sets the scene of an exciting murder mystery. Beth Heller, a rich lawyer on the island for a few days, takes the case of a suspect when approached by the hotel manager’s daughter Serena.

Along with Beth, another lawyer Tony also gets into the case and has his own story. While finding details and leads, Beth, Serena, and Tony find the case way beyond messy than they ever thought.

The Characters

All the characters in our typical mystery read fit into their respective roles. The main character defends the police suspect, the hotel manager, his daughter, and another lawyer who comes out of nowhere. It’s a small town, rather a small island mystery that provides enough time and space between chapters and characters to get into the story.

Reasons to Read

  1. The writing: James Patterson is known for his thrillers; this one already had a nice plot for a light mystery: A person has been murdered on a small island of Bermuda. Our leads have to find the real murderer. I liked the in-between jokes and scenes that kept the novel light and, at the same time, didn’t take you away from the mystery.
  2. The Characters: There were few characters in the book, mainly three, Beth, Tony, and Serena. It worked in the favor as it didn’t pose any unwanted misdirections for the listener. We even get time for side stories of Tony and Serena that aren’t long or boring—a great addition to the main plot.
  3. The Audible Production: Audiobooks by Audible are certainly one of the best presentations. They contain the right voiceovers by professionals who can deliver the dialogues perfectly to their characters and situations. We get Mary-Louise Parker narrating the main character Beth Heller, a rich lawyer, and she holds the personality truly.
  4. The Ending: We often get quite a flat ending in books. It makes even a good novel less impactful, whether adding a here twist that came out of nowhere, ending a novel too early, or anything else.

I liked the ending of Murder in Bermuda a lot. It is quite relatable, and I expect the ending for the characters considering the situations going on. It keeps you on your toes. The book can end here or continue as wished by the team.
