Walk 10,000 Steps a Day and Reach a Healthier Life!

Many physicians, doctors, and healthcare providers recommend a daily walk routine to keep yourself healthy and fit.

Other individuals set different goals by considering what daily steps they could accomplish. Finally, according to their comfort and physique, each person sets an idealistic goal, which they define as their daily step limit for walking.

And setting a goal for daily steps to walk becomes even more critical when you are working while sitting down the whole day. Hence, it is must needed routine for you.

Why walk 10,000 steps a day?

The challenge is much simpler than many other workouts and exercise challenges. All you need to do is step up your daily walk-step limit and take it to a cool 10k.

A simple walking exercise every day helps you in more than a few ways:-

  • You feel more confident with yourself.
  • It helps you maintain a healthy weight and your clothes stay the same size!
  • You could even lower your size, but that is totally up to you.
  • Exercising helps you maintain a healthy brain and mind.
  • You become happier with a calm and peaceful, which comes from a healthy and well-maintained body.
  • If you have children and want to keep up with them during their adventures, like biking or other physical sports, you will naturally need a healthy body that your 10k steps a day will provide you.

What backs up the 10,000-step challenge?

Why bother breaking your body every day to complete the challenge of 10k steps a month? First, the challenge needs to be backed up by scientific facts, per se. It originated as an advertising campaign or a marketing campaign by a Japanese company Manpo-Kei pedometer. The pedometer is for counting the 10k goal. With the product launch and the associated challenge in the 1960s, a craze started as walking clubs formed everywhere, and the product sale skyrocketed (evidently). Even years later, you can still find the product on Etsy and its vintage columns.

Can the 10,000 steps goal even be achieved?

Regular walking is much easier than many other exercises, requiring much effort, training, and specialized equipment, like in a gym. But for walking, you only need a bit of open space, the will to walk, and a pedometer if you want to count your steps. Hence, much more comfortable!

But can you achieve the 10k challenge goal? Different people came with different ideas explaining how varying situations of their day-to-day life allow them to reach different stages of the goal. For example, people said that when they have worked out before walking, they can even manage about 6,000 steps; when they have not exercised before, they barely reach a thousand steps.

Does anyone manage to complete the 10k steps per day challenge? A 10,000-step count reaches about 5 miles, which is quite a lot to walk daily. And it is natural to avoid reaching the goal and getting discouraged.

What could be the benefits?

While you might find it very difficult to reach the limit, that is, 10,000 steps or roughly 5 miles, when you have a pedometer, your will to walk and increase your steps gets stronger, and you walk more steps. The increased enthusiasm as you count your steps and push yourself to do more, you easily get closer to losing weight, reducing the risk of high blood pressure, etc.

An extra 2,000 steps a day can help you with health disorders like obesity, diabetes, depression, osteoporosis, heart disease, etc.

So, should you keep trying to track your steps and do more?

Though 10,000 steps per day could be better, especially when you are a working professional and can spare only so much time, you should keep on tracking your steps. The rough idea of many steps you have walked helps you maintain a limit or do more when you are in the mood for it.

The 10,000 steps per day challenge might be a manageable goal considering the steps you can manage walking in a day. But do track your steps and achieve as much as you can.
